During this difficult time, it might feel like we need to distract ourselves from our emotions. It might feel like it’s all too much, like watching Netflix, scrolling on Instagram, or eating everything in the pantry would be so much better than feeling those emotions.
Of course, in some circumstances, we actually don’t have the capacity to feel all of the big emotions. And in those cases, these behaviors as coping mechanisms could potentially be helpful. Maybe you have a deadline coming up where you can’t take the time to digest your emotions. Maybe you’re at work or in another space where big emotions aren’t welcome.
But continuing to hide from our emotions won’t make them go away. And they’ll only make them worse long-term.
I created this meditation for anyone who wants to lean into and digest their emotions.
In it, we will feel each part of our body and how we might be holding emotions within them.
We will lean into the discomfort of emotions and then move our way through them with breath.
We will recognize that we are not our emotions, and tap into the consciousness behind our emotions.
And if you want to talk more about the big emotions you might be feeling and how to design your day-to-day life so that you aren’t so overwhelmed by them, sign up for a Health Goals Session here. I want to help in whatever way I can.
